This large site down a ROW has extensive views back to Auckland central. The client wanted something typically un-NZ, so we came up with the Moorish theme. We were constrained on placement by a steep slope to the valley below and extensive bush. This dictated house design to a large degree, but also afforded privacy and interest.

The house was kept as high as possible to maximize the views of the city and reduce costly excavation. Even so, with the long driveway, there was alot of dirt that had to be moved!

We designed in considerable glass for light and

view, with large decks to the view, and also a large deck with access from the office. Accessible directly off the parking area allowed entry to the office without the need to walk through private areas of the home.

The large tower structure was originally designed as a full double height void but, during the building process, a design change was called for, converting the upper space to a library off the upper gallery area. With Manuka close to the library window, a soft light filters into this room and makes it inviting.
