A community housing development of 51 brick and tile homes - both single and 2 level - in Manurewa. We were involved in the drafting of these, although we did not do the original design.

The houses were grouped around a central “common” in a style typical of old English houing developments. This gives a very open feel to the development whilst still keeping yard sizes small to reduce maintenance for the occupants.

The “village common” idea also gives a safe environment for children to play, yet be in view of multiple houses. It encourages community interaction and gives a good sense of space and openess - something which is becoming less common in urban environments.
